Supporting Your Child: Staying Safe Online

Dear Parents/Carers,

We teach children about online safety throughout the year & also take part in the National Internet Safety day which enables us to reinforce important messages to our children.

As part of the overall strategy, parents and carers have a vital role in keeping children safe online so we wanted to share some useful websites that we recommend. Technology, apps and the internet are developing at a rapid pace so it can be difficult to keep up with the latest information. We believe that the following information will be very supportive and help you develop really useful knowledge and understanding:

The ‘Think You Know’ website is a useful bank of videos and advice for children and parents. Within the parent section there is the opportunity to find out how to report an incident and what to do if you are concerned about your child. In addition to this, there is an excellent section that can develop your understanding of how to keep your child safe online.

The ‘Get Safe’ website is an extensive bank of information. If you hear certain words you are unsure about then this website is for you. The ‘Safeguarding Children’ section is very useful.

One of our best pieces of advice is to always know what your child is accessing and ask them to teach you about the things they use. They often know more than we do! We believe once you have the knowledge you are in a better position to consider the risks.

Thank you for taking the time to read this advice.
